The title of this page is broader than it seems at first glance. By that, I mean that the dollars and cents you may pay to settle a traffic ticket is just ONE cost item that you need to evaluate long before your court date.
Be aware that no roadway in Georgia has a posted limit higher than 70 mph, and these are on interstate highways. Many judges will hand down very tough sentences for those drivers who flaunt the posted speed limit by racing or traveling at over 100 mph. This harsh punishment can include judicially suspending your driver’s license, particularly if a police chase is involved or an accident.
Georgia Speeding Ticket Cost
Because most citizens have never investigated GA speeding fines, they are clueless about how high the monetary penalties and other potential penalties are (e.g., being placed on probation or having to take a driver improvement class). If you go to court and receive a conviction for any speeding violation and THEN call us, the cost to try to undo your error can be double or more what it would have been, had you not created this problem by trying to represent yourself.
Once convicted of a super speeder violation in Georgia, GA Department of Driver Services sends out a super speeder notification via U.S. mail. You have from the date your notification is mailed out up to the 120-day deadline to pay the super speeder fines or your driving privileges will be suspended. To emphasize the importance of this, read this carefully: failure to pay the $200 super speeder fines to the Department of Driver Services within 120 days of your conviction will result in a license suspension. If your license gets suspended, there is an additional $50 fee for the reinstatement fee.
The code sections listed below are the main, controlling laws in Georgia pertaining to speeding crimes in various courtrooms. Unless limited by the specific statute (e.g., seat belt violations) the fines can be as high as $1000 plus state add-ons called “surcharges.”
Georgia Speeding Laws
The Georgia Department of Driver Services (GA DDS) is the state of Georgia agency that tracks all convictions (in any state or jurisdiction) to add to the history of your driving record. Importantly, DDS GA will not report adult age (21 years of age and over) speeding citations resolved in court for under 15 mph (miles per hour) over the limit.
In addition, a new “tax” called the Georgia super speeder law is applicable on any two-lane road on which the driver is exceeding the posted speed limit by traveling at 75 mph or higher on any two-lane road. For multi-lane roads, the tax is added if traveling at 85 mph or more. The point system in Georgia ranges from 2 to 6 points for each speeding traffic violation. If a driver accumulates 15 points or more within a 24 month period, his/her driving privileges will be suspended.
Before you pay the fine for a speed limit violation at your traffic court, you need to know how your insurance rates may be affected with your car insurance company, plus whether our legal team can find a way to avoid the $200 added tax for being a super speeder GA.
